As time passes, I keep reinventing myself in every place I’ve been. Living in different places shapes you in different ways, and the older you get, the more difficult it can become to start again. When I left Mexico more than 20 years ago, I didn’t realise how many times I would have to reinvent myself and find myself again, trying to belong not only to the places I lived in, but also to their cultures and surroundings.
Moving back to Finland has brought a different perspective each time — the first, second, or third. Every time, some things have been easy and others difficult, and other times vice versa. Today, I see that the grass is not always greener on the other side, and I am reconnecting with the vibrancy that colours bring to my life.
Colours are everywhere, in every moment of the day, in the people I meet and the situations I find myself in. They are bringing me closer to my traditions and my family as I raise my own family in a multicultural environment.
I am reconnecting with the Mexican part of me: a self full of colours, happiness, sadness, anger, love, understanding, acceptance, craziness, and so much more. All the shades of blue, turquoise, pink, purple, and red that surround me.
